The Leftovers
To teach that we need to give God the best in everything
Objective: To teach that we need to give God the best in everything
You will need: Half-eaten chocolate
Explanation: Bring a half-eaten chocolate to class and don’t show it to the kids. You may begin by asking them a few questions from the previous workshop. Tell them that you have a reward for the child who gets the maximum number of answers right. Now give the winning child the half-eaten chocolate as the reward. You may begin by saying, “What’s the matter? Some of you are looking at me like something is wrong. Oh! Is it about the chocolate? I’m sorry it looked so tempting that I had to eat some of it on my way here.” Ask the child how it feels to be given the leftovers.
Continue by saying, “Was it a good idea to give her/him the leftovers? Is that how a winner or anyone for that matter should be treated? Sometimes we treat God himself with our leftovers when we don’t do something for Him wholeheartedly. We give God our leftover time, leftover offerings, or leftover attention.
“Psalm 111:1 says, ‘I will praise the Lord with my whole heart.’
God wants us to serve Him with our whole heart. We need to give God our best in everything we do. God is the master of all creation. Everything that we own is a gift from Him. He deserves to be given the best in everything we have and do. When we give God our “leftovers” what are we really conveying our priorities are? Do we view God or ourselves as number 1?”
