Sprite Or Not
To teach that choices are hard to make and it is important to make right choices in life.
Objective: To teach that choices are hard to make and it is important to make right choices in life.
You will need: A table, two glasses filled with water and one glass filled with sprite (or any colourless drink that resembles water) and three paper chits with ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ written on them. If you are using an aerated drink, make sure you pour it in the glass before the class starts and set it aside for some time till the gas bubbles disappear.
Set up: Stick the chits ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ on the table and place the glasses near the respective chits. Fill any two glasses with water and one with sprite. Make sure you set everything up before the class begins.
Explanation: Begin by asking the kids to guess what is inside the three glasses. Tell them that two glasses out of the three contain water and one glass has sprite in it. Ask the children to correctly guess the glass containing sprite. Once they pick a guess, you may ask the kids to come forward, drink from the three cups and find for themselves the cup containing sprite.
You may ask them a few questions like,
- In life too, have you ever been really sure about something but then found out that you were wrong?
- What did you do and how did you feel then? (you may expect answers like, “I had to choose again”, “I felt bad that I didn’t know as much as I thought I knew”, “I felt silly”)
You may continue by saying, “Sometimes decisions/choices are hard to make and we all want to make the right choice always. Isn’t it? How do you make your choices?” (Wait for response. You may expect answers like, guesses, emotions, friend’s advice.)
“There is a better way, kids! Seeking GOD’s guidance. God is so wise and all knowing. There are no surprises to God. He knows everything that has happened in the past, what is happening now and what will happen in the future. There is nothing that He doesn’t know! When we allow Him to guide us, He will tell us everything we must do.”
Now how do we allow God to guide us?
- By talking to Him – Praying
- Reading His word – the Bible
- Following Jesus – To do what Jesus would do
