To teach that God knows what is good for us and helps us in making wise choices. If we do what our Heavenly Father wants us to do, we will always make right choices.
Objective: To teach that God knows what is good for us and helps us in making wise choices. If we do what our Heavenly Father wants us to do, we will always make right choices.
You will need: Provide each team
- A simple diagram (example: a smiley face, apple, fish) or a word printed on a paper (Make sure the diagrams are different for each team but do not reveal it to them)
- A plain paper stuck on the wall
- A marker
How to play: Divide the children into teams. Pick two children ‘A’ and ‘B’ from each team. Make ‘A’ to stand facing the plain paper stuck on the wall and ‘B’ to stand just behind ‘A’. Give ‘B’ the paper containing the diagram. ‘B’ should then use his/her finger to draw the diagram on the back of ‘A’ – attempting to transmit the message in such a way that enables ‘A’ to draw on the paper stuck on the wall. (like in the image below)
‘A’ should try to draw the exact duplicate of what he/she feels is drawn on his/her back. Strictly no talking.
Set a timer. The team that gets the diagram right (closest to the original) is the winner.
Explanation: You may ask the kids a few questions like,
- Is it possible for us to know everything before it happens?
- How hard was it to draw something without knowing what it is?
- What did you have to do to draw the right strokes?
You may begin by saying, “In life too, when we don’t have all of the information about something, it can be hard to do what is expected. You might have also been tempted to copy what your friends are drawing. But that would have only made you lose.
So ‘A’ is like us and ‘B’ is like God. Our eyes are able to see only what’s in front of them. We’re not able to see things that are in another room or things that haven’t happened yet. But God’s eyes see everything. And God is so wise. He can see what will happen even before it happens! God already sees which choices are wise. Only He can help us make wise choices. Let’s read from the Bible and see what it says about God’s wisdom – Psalm 147:5; 1 John 3:20; Hebrews 4:13; Psalm 44:21; Jeremiah 29:11.” (You may ask the kids to read these verses using a sword drill activity to make it more interesting)
A Fun Activity
Sword Drill. The children should have their Bibles closed. Hold up your Bible and say, “Swords ready” for which the kids should respond back by raising their closed Bibles, to head level or higher. You may now say the book, chapter and verse (for example: Matthew chapter 1, verse 2) and the children should repeat after you. When you say “ready”, the children should bring their Bibles down and turn to the verse as quickly as possible. As soon as a child finds the verse he/she can stand up read the verse out loud to the others. The child who finds the most verses first wins the game; in a larger group, the side (team) with the most verses found first, wins.
You may continue by saying, “God knows everything. There are no surprises to God. He knows everything that has happened in the past, what is happening now and what will happen in the future. There is nothing that He doesn’t know! When we allow Him to guide us, He will tell us everything we must do.”
Now how do we allow God to guide us?
- By talking to Him – Praying
- Reading His word – the Bible
- Following Jesus – To do what Jesus would do
